New Economics Institute

New Economics Institute has served as the research and development center for the BerkShares program. The Institute is a think-and-do tank working to make the new economics, one which supports people and planet, mainstream in the United States. Founded in 1980, the Institute has a long history with the theory and practice of implementing local currencies. The Berkshire Visitor's Bureau

If BerkShares have excited you about the amazing local character of the Berkshires, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau offers a wealth of information to help you plan your visit, including a comprehensive website, a free Official Visitors’ Guide, area brochures and a lodging reservation service. The website does not yet identify businesses that accept BerkShares. Consult our directories for lists of these businesses. When choosing places to visit and businesses to frequent during your stay, we of course hope that you will choose locally-owned establishments and pay in BerkShares!
