On Friday Eric Fisher of WGGB 40, an ABC affiliate, traveled to Stockbridge
with camera crew to have a “Sustainable Breakfast” (foods locally sourced)
at the Red Lion Inn and talk with owner, Nancy Fitzpatrick, about the Inn’s
use of BerkShares. Eric exchanged his federal dollars for BerkShares at
Berkshire Bank’s Stockbridge branch next door to the Inn. Nick Nardorff
then told him how his customers pay in local currency for gas to heat their
homes and John Lippman showed him how he processes a book sale using the
Berkshires own money.

BerkShares board members Louann Harvey and Dan Mead provided background and
statistics about the program.

The Stockbridge program aired that same night, encouraging Springfield
area listeners to visit the Berkshires and see how a region can make its own
money reflecting its values and unique sense of place.
