July 13, 2008

Dear Friends,

Come celebrate the second anniversary of issue of BerkShares local currency
at the second annual BerkShares Bash! The festivities will take place on
Saturday, September 20, 2008, from 1 to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of John
Dewey Academy, site of the historic Searles Castle, Main Street, Great
Barrington.

Last year, the vendor booths were the highlight of the event, and we expect
that to be the case again. Every business that is signed up to accept
BerkShares is invited to have a table, free of charge, for selling food,
clothes, gifts, or simply to distribute literature about what you do. All
trade taking place at the event will be conducted only in BerkShares. An
exchange station for trading federal dollars for BerkShares will be on site
for those who forgot to put BerkShares in their wallets!

This is going to be a family-friendly, community-minded event—and a lot of
fun! There will be a stage featuring multiple performers as well as various
activities for children. Merchants who choose to sell wares at the event are
guaranteed to have a captive audience.

Please let us know if you’d like to sign up to dispense goods or literature
at the BerkShares Bash. Vendors will be expected to provide their own
tables, shade/rain tents (inclement weather is always possible!), and cash
boxes (please come prepared to make change in BerkShares for customers).

The deadline for reserving space at the BerkShares Bash is August 10, but
the earlier we hear from you, the earlier we can start to use the name of
your business in our publicity materials. We hope you will be able to join
us!

Please note that film maker Chris Bedford will be in the Southern Berkshires
all of this week filming a story on local economies in general and
BerkShares in particular. Also CSNBC will be filming in the early part of
the week for a show in a series on how small businesses are faring in these
troubled economic times. They are looking at how BerkShares and other local
currencies are encouraging citizen support of local economies. Please
welcome these film crews if they come to your
place of business.

Sincerely,
The BerkShares Team
