Dear BerkShares Businesses,
Last week’s big news was the adjustment of the BerkShares Exchange rate that
made 100 BerkShares equal $95. This is exciting news for the BerkShares
program. Now those businesses that may be unable to spend all of the
BerkShares they receive will be credited for $ .95 per BerkShare when they
deposit them into the bank. That means they’re only giving a 5% discount, so
more businesses are likely to sign up to accept them, helping to put more
BerkShares into circulation and grow our local economy.
The new exchange rate means fewer hesitations in the wider business
community when considering accepting BerkShares – so please help us grow the
program by encouraging your favorite businesses to join. You can also ask
us to contact them – we love suggestions. New businesses can sign up by
visiting http://www.berkshares.org/signup.htm, calling 413-528-1737 or by
filling out a sign up form. If you’d like to receive a few sign up forms to
distribute, please email us at info@berkshares.org and let us know.
Please also make sure to let people know that you accept BerkShares. Doing
this will likely help to increase your business since citizens are always
looking for more places to spend their BerkShares. Why not mention
BerkShares in your display and radio advertising? Be sure you have
“BerkShares Accepted Here” stickers clearly displayed. Need stickers? Just
ask – we have plenty and will happily deliver them. Ask your customers if
they have BerkShares with them (sometimes people forget) and always ask
people if they’d be willing to accept them as change, whether or not it’s a
BerkShares transaction. In addition, be sure to have a supply of directories
on hand so your customers know where else they can spend them. Need more
directories? Let us know. We’ll deliver those too.
