Schumacher Center for a New Economics Schumacher Center for a New Economics has served as the research and development center for the BerkShares program. The mission of Schumacher Center for a New Economics is to educate the public about an economics that supports both people and the planet, through research, publications, practical applications, convening conferences and lectures, and conducting other compelling educational programs. The Schumacher Center is heir to the legacy programs of the E.F. Schumacher Society, which was founded in 1980, and has many years of experience with the theory and practice of implementing local currencies.
